internal grants programs
UH offers three university-wide internal grant programs each year. There is no limit to the number of applications that can be put in by CLASS or any department in a given cycle, though no faculty member is allowed to apply more than once for each program. new faculty research grants
- For faculty members who have been at UH for three years or less. Awards are for up to $6,000.

small grants program
- Open to any UH faculty member. Awards are for up to $3,000. This is an excellent source of summer funding.

- Small Grants Guidelines
grants to enhance and advance research (GEAR)
- Open to all tenured and tenure-track UH faculty members. These are larger awards — up to $30,000 — to be used as initial funding for projects that are strong candidates for external funding. GEAR cannot be used as a supplement to currently funded research.

faculty development leave
- The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences awards Faculty Development Leaves to full-time, tenured members of the faculty engaged in scholarly research and creative or artistic projects according to the guidelines below. Leaves may be taken for one semester at full salary or for the full academic year at half salary. Applications are due in the Dean’s Office of CLASS on the first Monday of November each year.
